Ordinary science observations

In document Line-Intensity Mapping with COMAP (sider 112-121)

8.2 Outlook

8.2.3 Ordinary science observations

May 2019 marks the beginning of the ordinary science observations for the COMAP experiment. Observations up to this point has been done with the purpose of calibrating the instrument and the pipeline. As shown in this thesis, the pipeline calibration is well under way. With the current status of both the instrument and the pipeline, we expect results from the ongoing science observations within 6-12 months.

Should COMAP be able to detect CO signals from the chosen science fields, the results would yield information regarding the early universe previously unavailable.

With the era of precision cosmology well under way, successful CO-detections would mark the COMAP experiment as major contributor to both modern cosmology as well as astrophysics.
