News from the mainland universities:

 UiB

o Digital submission of theses from 01.01.18. New routine and new forms.

 NMBU

o Revised regulations from March 2017 and September 2017. Most important in this respect:

 When applying for admission: documentation of proficiency in both written and oral English language is needed.

 NMBU’s right to archive and publish the thesis via NMBU’s open archive

 Submission of thesis only as electronic version (no paper copies needed) o NMBU welcomes more UNIS PhD students 

New PhD representatives in ECom

Ylva Ericson has been the PhD representative in ECom (the Educational Committee – advisory committee for the Leader Group, dealing with all educational matters at UNIS) for about a year, while Graham Gilbert has been the deputy for a couple of years. Ylva now wants to step back, and Graham is soon to finish his dissertation. New representatives should be voted for / appointed.

Malte Jochmann was appointed as the new PhD representative in ECom, with Holt Hancock as deputy.

Thanks a lot to Ylva and Graham, and good luck to Malte and Holt.

PHI401 Research Ethics and Philosophy of Science (5 ECTS)

This course will be arranged at UNIS in 2018, in the same manner as in 2016.

The course is approved as the mandatory course in the PhD programmes at all Norwegian universities where UNIS has PhD students, except Nord University. This is based on a line of communication with the universities in 2015.

The course will be arranged at UNIS 14 – 22 March 2018.

Course description, reading list and information about how to sign up will be sent out early next year.
