Refugees and Recognition - Toolkit 2 (REACT) Project coordinated by NOKUT www.nokut.no

Minutes: online-meeting – current status and plans for testing of the toolkit

Time: Wednesday, 27.03.2019 (11:00 – 12:00) Place: Online-meeting

Participants: see list at the end of the document.

1) Current status of the project and plans ahead

- NOKUT informs that several work packages within the project have been concluded since our last meeting in The Hague (November, 26th 2018)

- Five new refugees country briefings have been developed, on the educational systems of Iran, Ethiopia, Somalia, Venezuela and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

- The refugees country briefings have been presented through live-webinars, and the final live-webinar within the project, on the DRC, was held yesterday.

- The webinars have all been recorded, and can be accessed through the project website. The refugees country briefings and the PowerPoint presentations from the webinars are also available through the project website.

- The meeting today has been arranged to follow up on the status of the testing of the toolkit at the HEIs taking part in the project. It allows for all to learn more about the ongoing processes at the different universities and to agree on a plan for the months ahead.

2) Presentation of template on testing of the toolkit 1) University of Utrecht (Wendy Holwerda)

- Information about the project has been spread through several information channels.

- The Questionnaire / Self Evaluation Template has been sent out to a few candidates, but none of them have so far returned the document. There seem to be some challenges in terms of the document being in English, not translated to Dutch.

- The questionnaire has previously been translated to Arabic, and Erlend Bern Aaser (NOKUT) will contact Wendy Holwerda (University of Utrecht) about the

questionnaire that has been translated to Arabic. This can be helpful later in the process.

- Next step: Utrecht University will contact and follow up the candidates that have received the questionnaire and contact NOKUT with update on situation within May 15th.

2) University of Bremen (Jens Kemper)

- Have come a long way in the process, and have plans to conduct interviews with candidates in early July.

- KMK will translate questionnaire into German, which will be sent out to the candidates.

- University of Bremen would like some more information on how interviews should be conducted. NOKUT and the University of Bremen will be in contact at a later point in time, and NOKUT will inform in an email to all participants that we are glad to help with any requests for more information about the different parts of the toolkit (questionnaire, interview, final statement).

- Next step: Erlend Bern Aaser will send reporting form to Jens Kemper, which is to be used to report on the testing when the process has been completed. The tentative time for returning the reporting form is August 1st.

3) University of Limerick (John Lannon)

- Have identified 3-4 possible candidates for the testing of the toolkit.

- Plans to send questionnaire to possible candidates by the middle of May.

- Next step: contact NOKUT in the middle of May (15th), with update on plans to send out questionnaire to candidates.

4) Oslo Metropolitan University (Lars Sigurd Vedø)

- Have identified some possible candidates, and plans to recruit 1-3 candidates for the testing.

- Next step: contact NOKUT within May 15th, with an update on the recruitment of candidates and if any questionnaires have been sent out to candidates.
