Recanati was also the founder, together with the Turkish-Jewish swin dler Bernie Cornfeld, of Italy's largest mutual fund, the $1 billion Fon

ditalia.

The Trust families of Salonika and Aleppo, and those of the tightly centralized Levantine grain trade, have turned up repeatedly in EIR's investigation of the Temple Mount plot. For example, the chief financial vehicle from America, to the yeshiva of the "new priesthood," Ateret Cohanim, is the PEF Israel Endowment Funds, Inc., of Madison Avenue in New York. On its board sits Steven Shalom, of the ancient Aleppo rabbinical family. An associate of Shalom, Abraham Dwek, is also of an Aleppo rabbinical family, and runs Ateret's sister yeshiva in Jerusalem, the Birkat Avraham, composed of pipe-wielding ex-convicts. Shalom, whose personal family lawyer, Bernard Hoenig, is the chief American legal representative of Ateret, was for 17 years a board member of the

Israel Discount Bank of the Recanati family, which family moved from

Salonika to Palestine in the mid-1930s.

The chief financial godfather of the Syrian Jewish community, now

relocated to Brooklyn, New York, is Edmond Safra. The scion of the

Safra Frères banking house of Aleppo, Safra was sent, after World War

II, to Banco Commerciale Italiana for training. His hobby is "funding synagogues," and his chief assistant for years has been Cyril Dwek, of the clan running Birkat Avraham. Today, Edmond Safra is the chief

executive of what is perhaps the largest dirty-money laundromat in the world, the multibillion dollar Shearson/Amex, whose Philadelphia office alone was indicted for 181 counts of drug-money laundering.

Regarding the tradition of the Levantine grain trade, Dr. Charles

Monroe, an AJTF board member, reports that one of his most promising

supporters for the Temple project is Reuben Hecht of Haifa. Hecht, a

leading figure in the Irgun, and Menachem Begin's leading adviser for

many years, is today Israel's largest grain trader, with dual Swiss and

Israeli citizenship. Temple Mount backer Ariel Sharon's rise to power was entirely bankrolled by the Turkish-Jewish Meshulam Riklis, the Riklis who today controls a major part of the rice trade in Asia. Riklis was

himself sponsored in his rise by Burton Joseph of the I. S. Joseph grain

firm of Minneapolis, and was a close associate of Recanati and Bernie

Cornfeld in the multibillion-dollar Investors Overseas Services, a pool

of flight capital and dirty money which spawned Recanati's Fonditalia.

This is the Jewish component of the Trust, and the financial entities listed below, part of its modern evolution, have been documented by EIR investigations, in every case, to be directly involved in funding the

Temple Mount project. The estimate of funds necessary to "completely redeem" Jerusalem, has been cited by several plotters as $100,000,000.

This apparently large amount should be compared to the funds listed below, and the rather standard contributions to different elements of the

plot made by these financial entities, typically $100,000 at a time.

Tefahot Mortgage Bank. The largest mortgage bank in Israel, Tefahot has been giving preferential mortages to the Ateret Cohanim yeshiva, to allow it to buy land around Temple Mount.

North American Bank of Israel. Says Menachem Bar Shalom, Ateret

Cohanim's executive director, "This is our bank." Known in Israel as

the "bank of the Jews from Halab" (Aleppo), run by such Sephardic

families as the Nakashes, Nessim Gaon, etc., North American Bank recently collapsed when its director fled to South America. Some $60

to $70 million was missing from the till.

United Mizrahi Bank. UMB owns Tefahot, and thus clears its extensive,

preferential mortgages to Ateret. UMB's London chairman is Cyril Stein,

Britain's "casino czar," who contributed $100,000 to Ateret in 1984, and pledged to line up further contributions. Stein is also on the board of UMB's important New York branch.

Cyril Stein. Stein is the chairman of the board of Ladbroke's, the private betting house of Buckingham Palace and the cream of Britain's aristocracy since the 1700s. Stein is a partner in David Hicks International, founded some years ago by the son-in-law of the late Lord Mountbatten. Lad broke's, which expanded from betting to casinos and real estate when Stein came in, is now a multibillion-dollar entity, with vast interests in

Britain, the United States, and Israel. Stein is also a chief sponsor of

the plan to open a casino complex in the "free port" of Eilot in Israel.

When Ariel Sharon traveled to London in late 1985, he stayed at the private home of Stein, one of his biggest supporters. Ladbroke's is tied closely to Barclays Bank in London, a co-owner, with the Recanatis, of

the Israel Discount Bank.

PEF Israel Endowment Funds, Inc. Located at 342 Madison Avenue in

New York, PEF is directed by Sidney Musher. Dispensing $16 million a

year to various Israeli "charities," PEF is a direct pipeline to Ateret

Cohanim.

Robert Jacobs. Jacobs, a certified public accountant, is a partner in the

Kanarek and Jacobs firm, 1180 Avenue of the Americas, New York.

Jacobs is a real estate manager and tax specialist, and is tied closely to

the Aleppo community in Brooklyn. He put up personal funds for those arrested in the spring 1984 plot to blow up the Dome of the Rock, and contributed $100,000 to start a fund to defend any Jewish terrorists

accused of attacking Arabs on the West Bank. As one of his long-time

associates, Rabbi Tendler, put it, "Bob Jacobs will give me $25,000 for any cause I want." When questioned on where Jacobs gets all his money, Tendler replied, twice, "I assume he steals it." Jacobs also has extensive

dealings with James, Lang, and Wooton, the British firm involved in casino operations, among other things.

Abraham Dwek. Dwek personally founded Ateret's sister yeshiva, the terrorist Birkat Avraham. His own money, from his Brooklyn electronics firm, has been poured into the yeshiva, but he is widely suspected to be a front for much vaster money. One of the Dwek clan, Cyril, has been

the right-hand man to Edmond Safra for decades, the same Safra whose

hobby is "funding synagogues."

Dwek is part of the enormous Syrian Jewish business interests in New York, including the "Crazy Eddie" electronics marketing firm. Started 15 years ago, "Crazy Eddie," only one of the many Syrian Jewish electronics concerns, has annual sales of $300,000,000. Virtually all of the Syrian Jewish community in New York is active in real estate. Two young Syrian Jews, the Bernstein brothers, now aged 26 and 38, achieved notoriety a couple of years ago with their leading bid of $477 million to buy the New York Coliseum. The Bernsteins started in real estate in 1981. When

the Syrian Jewish families first moved from Aleppo to New York after World War I, their first synagogue in Brooklyn was the Freemasonic Hall

in Williamsburg.

Albert Kaplan. Kaplan, of Albert Levinson Co., 82 Wall Street, which

specializes in South African gold stocks, is a personal associate of two of the three Recanati brothers who own Israel Discount Bank. He is a member of several Freemasonic lodges, and is a close personal friend and funder of the old Stern Gang terrorist and leading Israeli member of the

AJTF, Stanley Goldfoot.

Dr. Irving Moscowitz. A Florida real estate speculator with extensive

interests there and in Israel, Moscowitz several years ago put up the

money to buy Ateret's first housing unit in the Old City. A major funder of Yuval Ne'eman and the Tehiya Party, Moscowitz says of his favorite Israeli political figure: "Sharon is the King, a visionary. If they had listened to him, we could have had Lebanon. A great man. His time will come."

Terry Risenhoover. The president of the AJTF, Risenhoover is more representative of the "liberal Eastern Establishment" side of the Trust, centered around the old Morgan interests and the "Christian fundamen talism" operations they run out of the Harvard, Yale, and Princeton

divinity schools.

Though he is involved in several companies, the bulk of Risenhoover's money, which he has been pouring into the Temple Mount operation beginning with a $100,000 transfer to Stern Ganger Stanley Goldfoot in late 1982, comes from his speculative operations in oil on the North

Slope of Alaska.

It seems clear that Risenhoover is merely laundering vaster funds than

he commands into the Temple Mount project, with at least one source,

or medium, being ARCO. As the Temple Mount project started gearing up in mid-1983, requiring expanded deployments by Gush Emunim, substantial land speculation, etc., Risenhoover all of a sudden in July, won three bids for sizeable tracts of oil-rich land, in an auction conducted

by the Federal Bureau of Land Management. According to their own

account, Risenhoover's Los Angeles-based Alaska Land Leasing, Inc.

"was the only independent to ever have won against the major oil com

panies in competitive bidding for exploration and drilling on federal lands

in Alaska." ALLI beat out 17 companies, including ARCO, Texaco,

Shell, Sohio, Chevron, BP, and Getty, for an area near the gigantic

National Petroleum Reserve.

ARCO Petroleum's Robert O. Anderson sits on the board of the

Stanford Research Institute, which has sponsored several of the AJTF's

members, and on the board of Kissinger Associates, whose namesake is fully involved in the West Bank landscam. It is noteworthy that Ris enhoover happened to get plots immediately adjoining ARCO's, after bidding second overall to ARCO. Most importantly, they had in their possession drilling logs from ARCO itself for the area they were bidding

on, not something one company normally hands out to a competitor.

And while ARCO paid over $95 an acre, ALLI somehow managed to get their plots for $35 an acre. Said ALLI Vice-President Douglas Krieger,

"We were delighted" with the results of the sale, a delight no doubt felt

in fanatic circles in Jerusalem as well.

One year later, Risenhoover et al. had raised a minimum of $8 million,

according to U.S. government officials, and possibly as high as $30 to

$40 million for the Temple Mount project.

Regarding his striking "good luck," Risenhoover himself says: "It re quires at least $500 million to develop oil in Alaska. This is where our international connections come in. Alaska is exclusively the domain of

the majors."

The map of Temple Mount, reproduced above, is handed out by the American Jerusalem Temple Foundation as part of its propaganda drive to blow up the Dome of the Rock (located in the center of the Temple Mount) and rebuild Solomon's Temple. While the Temple is generally thought to have stood where the Dome of the Rock is now located, AJTF member and Freemasonic operative Asher Kaufman, suddenly announced

"evidence" that it might have been 330 feet away, i.e., to the north of the Dome of the Rock, and therefore, not threatening its existence. The

claim for this alternative site was intended to be a "foot-in-the-door" toward establishing a Jewish presence on Temple Mount. AJTF members

have been involved in extensive digging efforts in the Rabbinical tunnel, located along the Western Wall. Already two years ago, they had reached

the Antonia Fortress in the northwest corner of the Mount, and had turned east with their digging, toward the Moslem Quarter. Several AJTF

members were in the tunnels at the time of one of the attempted terrorist assaults on the Temple Mount.

The AJTF: dramatis

personae

The nominal excuse for the Jan. 8, 1986 Knesset delegation's provocation on the Temple Mount were charges brought by delegation member Ger shon Solomon and his group, the Faithful of the Temple Mount, that

the Muslim trust responsible for the site, the Waqf, had carried out illegal construction on its premises. Gershon Solomon, at the time of the visit, was already a notorious figure in Israel. As head of the Faithful, he has

been repeatedly involved in court suits, demonstrations, provocations,

etc. over the rights of Jews to pray on Temple Mount-an action for bidden in any case by rabbinical law. But prayer is hardly the foremost thing on Gershon Solomon's mind. As he has repeatedly stated, "We won't stop until we have full control over the Temple Mount." The point is to demolish the Dome of the Rock, and rebuild Solomon's Temple.

Solomon's cult, the Faithful of the Temple Mount, sits in the middle of a cluster of institutions associated with Stanley Goldfoot, a Stern Gang

killer reported to have played a leading role in blowing up the King

David Hotel in the 1940s, and, according to his associate, Terry Ris

enhoover, "a solid, legitimate terrorist." It was Goldfoot's personal lawyer

who provided legal services to a crew picked up in 1983 with hundreds of pounds of explosives in their possession, at the foot of the Temple

Mount.

Goldfoot, besides founding the Faithful of the Temple Mount, is the

chief Israeli representative of the Christian fundamentalist AJTF. Be ginning with the late 1982 contribution of $100,000, the AJTF has poured

a small fortune into Goldfoot's efforts, and into related land speculation on the West Bank. ccording to sources Israel, some of the AJTF funds were used for logistical support for the April 1984 plot to blow up

the Dome of the Rock.

The following are the chief members and associates of the AJTF.

Terry Risenhoover. Described above, the Oklahoma-based Risenhoover is the chairman of the AJTF. Chief executive in a series of interlinked

firms including Alaska Land Leasing, Inc., Federal Lease Filing Corp.,

and several others, Risenhoover thinks of himself as "the new Nehemiah,"

personally responsible for rebuilding the Temple.

Douglas Krieger. Vice-president of the AJTF, and of several of Risen

hoover's corporate and charitable shells. He is associated with Tav Min

istries of Portland, Oregon, an evangelical organization with close ties to former Guatemalan "born-again" dictator Ríos Montt. He says of the

AJTF, "We are very much in touch with the Gush Emunim. We are

working together on a very vast scale with regards to real estate. . . ."

Pastor James DeLoach. Pastor of the "Exciting Second" Baptist Church

in Houston, Texas. Board member of AJTF. One of the more important

fundamentalists in the United States, DeLoach has taken several groups to Israel to tour the Temple Mount, and meet with Goldfoot at the Jerusalem Hilton Hotel and his home in Jerusalem. Says Krieger, it was

"providential. . . . Do you know that Reverend DeLoach and his com panions were in one of the tunnels when some youths tried to ... you know. . . an attempt on the Muslim shrine. In fact, we [AJTF] paid the legal fees and got the legal defense for the defendants."

Dr. Charles Monroe. President of the AJTF; dean of Bethel College near

Los Angeles, Calif.; a leading figure in U.S. fundamentalism. Monroe has been to Israel a number of times.

Michael and Barbara Ledeen. Regarding the Temple Mount plot, Barbara Ledeen reported already in 1983, "That's my baby!" EIR exposés of her role in the plot, from her post as an editor of Biblical Archeology Review, (BAR) resulted in her being dropped from the magazine. This, however, did not stop circles in the U.S. Pentagon from hiring her, where she reportedly now works, and from where she continues her role as one of the core activists of the AJTF.

Her husband, Michael Ledeen, currently a consultant to the National Security Council, co-authored with her a major "damage control" article in the New Republic following earlier EIR exposés. Ledeen, a long-time

dirty-tricks man for former U.S. secretaries of state Kissinger and Haig, was sent by them to Italy in 1981 to cover up their involvement in the

Propaganda-2 Freemasonic scandal which brought down the Italian gov ernment. A New Republic correspondent in Italy for many years, Ledeen

reports that one of the most important influences on his book, Universal Fascism, was the Venetian Count Vittorio Cini, the financial wizard for

several of Volpi di Misurata's businesses. Ledeen is a close friend of Stanley Goldfoot, according to Goldfoot. Barbara Ledeen has toured the Ateret

Cohanim yeshiva in Jerusalem, run by Goldfoot's friends, the priests-in training for the rebuilt Temple.

Lambert Dolphin. The head of the radiophysics department at Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, Calif., Dolphin is the AJTF's chief

"scientific cover." He has led AJTF expeditions underneath the Temple Mount, and has been trying to get onto the Mount proper. Dolphin, who has a history of psychiatric problems, became a "born-again" Chris tian after one such episode, and is now fanatically committed to rebuilding the Temple. His "Biblical" view of Israel's expanded role in the Middle East is truly cabalistic. Some of his official literature from SRI says: "The land of Lebanon is mentioned 72 times in the Bible, always in close connection with Israel. . . . It is clear that Lebanon belongs to Israel

and is part of the land Yahweh intends for the Jews to ultimately possess

or control." Asked if SRI, on whose board George Shultz sat until be coming secretary of state, is fully behind him in this cause, Dolphin

replies, “Oh yes, the company is fully behind me in it. We're the largest non-profit science and archeology group in the world."

Pat Robertson. The Yale Divinity trained media king of the Christian fundamentalist movement, and head of the "700 Club," Robertson airs

his pro-Temple views on a network of over 1,400 radio and 100 TV

stations. He is also notorious for pushing the "God is entropy" arguments

of left-winger Jeremy Rifkin. Robertson is widely believed to be preparing for a 1988 presidential run. He hails from a wealthy old Virginia family.

Of Robertson's fellow fundamentalist and frequent visitor to the Soviet Union, Billy Graham, Goldfoot reports, "I have spoken to Billy Graham many times on this. At first, he didn't get the point, but now he un

derstands."
