Existem poucas limitações importantes deste estudo. Uma é a inabilidade para avaliar fatores causais e a direcionalidade em razão do desenho transversal da pesquisa. Estudos longitudinais são imprescindíveis para explorar a relação causal entre esses fatores e avaliar a efetividade de intervenções que possam contribuir para melhor controle glicêmico nessa população. Outra decorre do fato de ter sido realizada em centro de referência de atendimento e ser uma amostra de conveniência, portanto os dados não podem ser extrapolados para outros cenários, como na atenção primária ou outras regiões.

6 CONCLUSÃO
A prevalência do consumo de risco de álcool e a presença de sintomas de ansiedade e de depressão em adolescentes e adultos com DM1 foram elevadas. O uso de risco de álcool aumentou proporcionalmente ao aumento da faixa etária e foi mais prevalente nos homens, sendo que, nos adolescentes, não houve diferença entre os gêneros. Na amostra estudada, o controle glicêmico foi inadequado na maioria dos pacientes, independentemente do consumo de álcool e da presença de sintomas de ansiedade e de depressão.
