2.1. Befolkning

Há uma menor densidade de mastócitos em carcinomas epidermóides de boca quando comparado a hiperplasias fibroepiteliais e displasias epiteliais.

Há aumento da angiogênese quando a lesão torna-se maligna. Entretanto, não há alteração da vascularização quando comparadas hiperplasias fibroepiteliais e displasias epiteliais.

Não foi possível encontrar correlação entre mastócitos e angiogênese em lesões potencialmente malignas e câncer de boca, indicando que nos carcinomas de células escamosas orais não há participação dessa célula no processo de angiogênese.
