· Indivíduos com LV recuperado, mesmo após 10 anos pós-tratamento, mantêm níveis elevados de células de memória;
· Pacientes com leishmaniose visceral apresentam frequência elevada de células CD4 e CD8, ativadas ex vivo;
· Indivíduos em fase aguda da LV apresentam diminuída frequência de células T regulatórias após estímulo por SLA, quando comparado com indivíduos com cura clínica estabelecida;
· Indivíduos com história de LV apresentam Leishmania no sangue periférico, dando suporte à hipótese de persistência parasitária mesmo após a melhora clínica pós-tratamento.
