Material and methods

All data are taken from the annual ICES reports (ACFM reports;

NEA cod section).

There are comparison of results borrowed from:

a. Annual assessments taken in previous years;

b. Updated annual assessments taken in final year (2005).

Consequences for future management advices

• Unification of fishery management rules within the margins of cod area;

• Receiving reliable fishery statistics;

• Improving stock survey’s methodology;

• Minimizing uncertainties related to assessment

methods and data.

From surveillance and controls of the commercial shrimp fishery conducted by the Directorate of Fishery, data on bycatch are available (Table .6). A gain of

• Calculations based on average cod, haddock and shrimp prices 2004 and using varying future catch expectancies from ”saved” juveniles, indicates following by-catch criteria:. •

The fishery on the Iceland-Greenland-Jan Mayen stock of capelin has, therefore, been regulated by preliminary catch quotas set prior to each fishing season

The fishery on the Iceland-East Greenland-Jan Mayen capelin has, therefore, been regulated by preliminary catch quotas set prior to each fishing season (July-March)

The fishery on the Iceland-Greenland-Jan Mayen stock of capelin has been regulated by precautionary catch quotas set prior to each fishing season (July-March)

Fishermen and their representatives are poorly documented on fishery statistics and thus also weakly prepared for discussions on fleet size, fishing effort, total catch and catch
