Main objectives of the project

Organize the sampling and quantitative

analysis of demersal fish stomachs (mainly cod)

To calculate the food consumption

(including the commercially important prey species) by cod

To create the basis for the development of

multispecies models of the Barents Sea

(4)

Methods

Sampling:

Sampling of stomachs on Russian and Norwegian scientific cruises and Russian commercial vessels

Number of stomachs sampled per station and number of stations sampled has changed over the time period

(5)

Sampling coverage by quarter

Methods

Stomach content Analysis

Until 1995 – standard quantitative analysis

Since 1995 – additionally SVKAP (PINRO)

IMR- analysis onboard for some years in

1990s

Methods

Data base (software)

MAGE - main software until 2003

Since 1993 – STUVW (IMR)

Since 2003 – BIOFOX (PINRO)

MAGE still used for joint data base and diet calculations

(8)

Important milestones

1987- first calculation of total prey consumption by cod

1990- stomach data used in joint capelin assessment

1991- 5th joint symposium: Interrrelationships between fish populations in the Barents Sea (Murmansk, Russia)

1995- stomach data used in cod and haddock

assessment (ICES Arctic Fisheries Working Group)

2003- calculation of food consumption by other predators (PINRO)

Joint data:

mostly cod

Prior to 1995 also haddock

Last two-three years: also exchange of

RELATERTE DOKUMENTER

The Norwegian–Russian data originate from a joint research project on the diet and food consumption of Barents Sea fish, with cod as the main study species, initiated in the

Preliminary Report of joint Soviet-Norwegian O-qroup fish survey in the Barents Sea and adjacent waters in August-September 1970.. Preliminary Report of the international O-group

„ Since 1972, the capelin stock in the Barents Sea has been surveyed by an annual acoustic survey in autumn.. „ The assessment of the

The data on capelin stomach contents was obtained from the joint PINRO - IMR fish stomach content data base. Table 1 sumrnarizes the number of stomachs by 3

DOMMASNES, A. [Capelin investigations in the Barents Sea in June-July 19781. During the period 21 June - 15 July 1978 investigations were carried out on the Barents Sea

Formation of primary growth rings in otoliths of Barents Sea capelin was studied both for fish of known age, from rearing in a basin, and for field-sampled fish.. Correlation

• Joint IMR-PINRO stomach content data base (1984-present), > 200 000 stomachs analysed (weight, prey composition etc.).. • PINRO investigations of qualititative stomach

• Somewhat reduced abundance of zooplankton biomass and thus feeding conditions for capelin, Norwegian spring- spawning herring and other juvenile fish in the Barents Sea in
