3 In November 2019, Larvik library sustained heavy

damage in a fire. My task investigates the potential of a new library on the existing site.

Larvik is a town and a municipality on the south- east coast of Norway. The town has 25 000 inha- bitants. With the old library in ruins, Larvik faces the question of what their next library can be.

It is important to distinguish Larvik as a town and not a city. Suburban, urban and natural elements are weaved together. The town can be read as a hybrid typology that mixes these qualities rather than committing to one.

In Larvik specifically, three elements characterise the town: the house, the terrain and the vegetation.

The project investigates how these elements can be incorporated into a library that emphasizes the character of Larvik.

TYPOLOGY Public library

SIZE 3000 m2

SITE Nansetgata 29, 3256 Larvik, Norway
