1.2 Research gap and research questions

O benzonidazol nanopartículado apresenta efeito tripanocida sobre as três formas de Trypanosoma cruzi, sendo esse efeito mais potente e mais rápido do que o observado para benzonidazol em sua forma livre, os dois tratamentos promovem alterações celulares indicativas de necrose envolvendo dano mitocondrial, demonstrando assim que a entrega de fármacos por meio de nanosistemas é uma ferramenta eficaz para potencializar o efeito terapêutico de fármacos pouco seletivos. Os dados do presente trabalho poderão ser úteis para o desenvolvimento de novos sistemas nanoparticulados e para a investigação dos efeitos in vivo dessa nanopartícula, quanto a eficácia terapêutica e toxicidade.
