6.2 Mulige forklaringer til funksjonsforbedring

A primeira dificuldade encontrada nesta investigação esteve relacionada com a recolha da amostra de empresas familiares e não familiares. Inicialmente estava previsto utilizar a carteira de clientes da empresa onde foi efetuado o estágio curricular de forma a efetuar uma análise de perto e mais pormenorizada do desempenho das empresas. Esta hipótese tornou-se inexequível devido à inexistência de ENFs na carteira de clientes da empresa.

A revisão de literatura evidencia que, dentro do grupo das EFs, pode haver diferenças no desempenho, dependendo de quem detém a propriedade e a gestão. Inicialmente, era pretendido investigar esta questão numa amostra de empresas retirada das empresas clientes do gabinete, mas mais uma vez não foi possível pois em todas as empresas clientes do gabinete a mesma pessoa que geria era a mesma que detinha a propriedade da empresa. Esta será uma questão a explorar em trabalhos posteriores. Por fim, visto ser impossível utilizar uma amostra constituída pelas empresas clientes do gabinete foi decidido utilizar a base de dados AMADEUS de forma a recolher um grupo de empresas familiares e não familiares a operarem em Portugal. Devido ao elevado número de empresas e à dificuldade em classificar todas aquelas que eram EFs, decidimos restringir a nossa análise às empresas das quatro indústrias tradicionais referidas. Seria interessante replicar o estudo considerando uma amostra de empresas diferente, por exemplo considerando um conjunto de indústrias intensivas em tecnologia.
