4.1 Mechanical construction

Em resumo esta dissertação chega aos principais resultados:

1. A pressão de saturação de CO2 diminuiu com o aumento da biomassa

fitoplanctônica, mas ainda assim mostra-se elevada, resultando em ecossistemas aquáticos supersaturados independente do estado trófico. 2. Ecossistemas aquáticos equatoriais são mais heterotróficos e mais variáveis

quanto ao metabolismo, tanto para pCO2, como para o metabolismo

bacteriano.

3. As taxas de respiração bacteriana nesses ecossistemas equatoriais permanecem constantemente elevadas em níveis máximos, independente das taxas de produção de biomassa bacteriana; mais elevadas inclusive quando comparadas com regiões temperadas e outros ambientes tropicais.

4. Encontramos as menores eficiências de crescimento bacteriano já reportadas para ecossistemas aquáticos continentais lênticos, o que pode contribuir com a heterotrofia desses ecossistemas. Entretanto, os direcionadores do

metabolismo nessas regiões ainda precisam ser melhor compreendidos. Assim, essa dissertação provê evidências que o padrão global de supersaturação em CO2 pode ser encontrado mesmo em lagos hipereutróficos com altas taxas de

biomassa fitoplanctônica em climas quentes e submetidos a elevada radiação solar, sugerindo que nessas condições a respiração heterotrófica ainda pode exceder a produção primária, devido o aumento das atividades de remobilização de carbono através de matéria orgânica estocada nos lagos. Além disso, traz dados substanciais que estão de acordo com dados recentes que evidenciam um novo paradigma tropical a respeito da pouca eficiência das bactérias planctônicas em acumular biomassa e transferir de energia para níveis tróficos. Globalmente, a grande variabilidade metabólica, tanto para níveis de pCO2 como das taxas microbianas nesse ecossistemas

rasos de baixa latitude ressalta uma necessidade de inclusão dessas águas continentais em modelos globais de ciclo do carbono. Também, estudos futuros ainda precisam ser realizados para entender diversos aspectos do ciclo do carbono e metabolismo microbiano em ecossistemas aquáticos tropicais/equatoriais que permanecem pobremente entendidos.
