O óleo essencial de Ocimum micranthum apresenta ação antiespasmódica em trato gastrintestinal de ratos in vitro.
Os isômeros (E)- e (Z)-cinamato de metila tem contribuição expressiva para ação inibitória do OEOM. Esse efeito ocorre sobre contrações evocadas por acoplamento farmacomecânico e eletromecânico independentemente da estrutura isomérica.
O isômero (E)-cinamato de metila inibe contrações dependentes unicamente do cálcio intracelular.
Ainda pode-se afirmar que esse efeito passa pela redução dos níveis de cálcio intracelular e independe da participação da enzima óxido nítrico sintase e de canais de potássio.
O isômero (E)-cinamato de metila apresentou efeito anti-inflamatório em magnitude semelhante ao do glicorticóide prednisolona quando avaliado sob o ponto de vista funcional, e em menor intensidade sob o ponto de vista morfológico-bioquímico.
