Existem vários tipos de anemias que podem ter manifestações orais e implicações em Medicina Dentária, embora alguns tipos não sejam muito frequentes.
Deste conjunto de patologias a anemia ferropénica é a mais comum. No entanto, apesar de apresentar algumas manifestações orais, não implica cuidados especiais de saúde oral, como outras patologias mais severas, como a anemia falciforme ou a talassémia. Estes dois tipos de anemias são os que apresentam manifestações orais mais exuberantes, embora sejam casos relativamente raros.
É por isso essencial que o profissional de saúde oral conheça a patologia e as suas implicações, de modo a adaptar o plano de tratamento ao paciente, proporcionando-lhe um atendimento adequado.
