DIRECTORV OF NORWEGIAN

POLAR SCIENTISTS

(3)

Printed May 1991

(4)

This directory has been issued on the initiative of the Norwegian National Committee for Polar Research. The aim of the directory is to provide collaborators at home and abroad with a

convenient reference guide which contains information about Norwegian polar research scientists and polar research institutions.

The material has been compiled by the use of questionnaires which were sent to universities, colleges and research institutions which are involved in polar research. By "polar research" we mean:

"Research which has its basis and origin in material from the polar regions (Arctic and Antarctic), phenomena existing in the polar areas or which aims at application in the polar areas". (Translated from NOU 1989:9, Norsk Polarforskning)

The NOU report definition of the Arctic excludes the Norwegian mainland. Some research scientists who have answered the questionnaire do not satisfy this definition. They have not been included in the directory.

The key word "POLAR EXPERIENCE" in the directory has the following definition:

SHORT: O - 5 years, MEDIUM: 6 - 10 years, LONG: more than 10 years.
