OG BIOVITENSKAP
¾ Micro-algae are the fastest growing
photosynthesizing organisms. They can complete an entire growing cycle every few hours to days.
¾ High oil content algae species: 20-50%, some as high as over 70%; and high overall biomass yield.
¾ Environmentally friendly
¾ Waste management (waste water and CO 2 )
¾ Green process and products and complete utilization
¾ Highly renewable
Why algae?
5
OG BIOVITENSKAP
Ongoing Efforts
¾ Screening algae species
¾ Fast growing in wastewater
¾ High oil content
¾ Developing closed or hybrid photobiorectors
¾ Developing harvesting, oil extraction, direct conversion techniques, etc.
¾ Developing practical pilot
commercialization schemes

Ongoing Efforts
Project with SINTEF, Akvaforsk and APC to 31.12.2008:
– Production and testing different algae as:
• Feed for salmon and cod
• As immune stimulant in feed
Asked for a 4-year project together with Bioforsk from 01.01.2009
• Bioforsk do research on H2-production
• UMB research on production physiology – Asked for one technician and one PhD Working on a proposal together with University of Goteborg, Sweden on oyster production, where UMB are going to do the microalgae.
A PhD student from December 2008 to work on how the
environment influence on the PUFA content.
