PART 1 - PHONETICS (35%)

Please begin each section of the exam on a new page. All questions must be answered unless otherwise stated. You may choose to write any answer, or part of one, by hand on paper if you wish.

I. Transcribe the following sentences phonemically in either Received

Pronunciation or American English. Use weak forms where appropriate and indicate a logical stress pattern for each utterance according to the conventions for illustrating sentence stress.

II. Discuss two of the terms below. Point to relevant examples. You will be scored both on the quality of your discussions as well as the use of appropriate
