Visiting Scholar Programme

Objective
The objective of the visiting scholar programme is to support emerging high quality research within the field of international human rights, to build human rights research capacity in the target countries and provide international networking and exchange opportunities between individuals and institutions in the human rights field.
Who can apply?
The programme is for researchers from Mainland China, Indonesia and Vietnam. Priority will be given to researchers that have obtained a PhD-degree, or who are currently enrolled in a PhD programme. In 2014, we encourage applications on the following topics:
1) Business and Human Rights 2) Human Rights Monitoring
Topics related to programme activities or the research areas of the Centre (Human Rights and Conflict, Human Rights and Constitutionalism, Human Rights and Development, Human Rights and Diversity) are also welcome.
Good spoken and written English language proficiency is a requirement. Please note that participation in this programme does not give academic credits or an academic degree.
The Research Grant
The research grant covers insurance, international flights and accommodation in central Oslo. In addition the guest researcher will be given an adequate amount per month to cover living expenses in Norway. It is not possible for the NCHR to invite family of the guest researcher to Norway.
Programme Structure
During the whole visit the visiting scholars are welcome to use the library and study facilities at the Centre. A contact person is appointed for each guest researcher. NCHR staff will also assist with setting up meetings with relevant government institutions, NGO’s, and experts depending on research theme.
The visiting scholars are encouraged to take part in NCHR activities and ongoing events. During the research period a presentation of the research findings will take place at the NCHR. The researchers are expected to produce a report detailing the achievements of the research stay and an article on the proposed topic of research.
