Center Affiliations:

2003-2011 Director, Mary Amelia Douglas-Whited Community Women‘s Health Education Center, Tulane University Health Science Center,

New Orleans, LA, U.S.

In 2000, the Frost Foundation granted Tulane University National Center of Excellence in Women‘s Health unrestricted funding to assist in continuing the work in their Women‘s Health Projects. In January 2003, the Frost Foundation pledged $5 million to name the Mary Amelia Douglas-Whited Community Women‘s Health Education Center. The Mary Amelia Center serves as a comprehensive, community-oriented health education center by providing health education programs that are culturally, geographically, and age appropriate. With an ecological approach to health promotion focuses on sharing, building and empowering, the center recognize that providing health information is only a small part of fostering healthy individuals and communities.

(5)

2002-2005 Medical Director, Tulane Total Women‘s Health Care Center, Tulane University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, LA, U.S.

This center provided comprehensive clinical care to women across the lifespan. This was a multidisciplinary clinic with Nurse Practitioners, Medical Doctors and Social Workers practicing in the clinic. Family medicine, general internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, rheumatology, hematology, endocrinology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility as well as psychiatry were represented. 65% of our patients were African American. We had an active bone health program as well as several health education programs in the clinic that was closed due to Hurricane Katrina flooding our clinic with four feet of water.

1999-2011 Director, Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women‘s Health, Tulane University Health Science Center, New Orleans, LA, U.S.

The Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women‘s Health (TUXCOE) was designated as a National Center of Excellence by the U.S. Office of Women‘s Health, Department of Health and Human Services in October 1998 with the purpose to “support innovative national model program projects for comprehensive and coordinated women’s health care, public and health care professional education, and research.” The Center is a collaborative effort of Tulane University and Xavier University of Louisiana. The Center has so far raised around $12 mill in research and program funding from DHHS, CDC, NIH, HRSA, MCHB, the Frost Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, Pharmaceutical companies, and Tulane University.
