International Engagement

CID Centre for International Development

NIBIO coordinates exten- sive collaborative activities in non-European countries.

These typically focus on food security, digital and climate smart agriculture, natural resources manage- ment and rural develop- ment. NIBIO has an agree- ment with NORAD / The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation.

NIBIO is involved in a multitude of international projects, particularly in:

• Europe

• The Barents Region

• China

Monitoring and Surveillance Programmes Tools and Services

JOVA - The Norwegian Agricultural Environmental Monitoring Programme, (operating since 1992) monitors water flow and pollutants in 11 agri- cultural catchments.

The Norwegian National Forest Inventory (NFI), is the world’s oldest nationwide forest inventory (since 1919), collected both from the field and via remote sensing.

Land resource survey Provides a complete and detailed national coverage of land resource information with particular emphasis on agri- culture and forest areas.

• Soil survey Produces maps of soil type and soil properties on agricultural land. Within 2075 it will cover all agricultural land in Norway.

CORINE Land Cover (CLC) The Norwegian part of the pan-European land covers monitoring organized by the European Environment Agency.

• Farm level economic survey An annual sampling survey (since 1911) provides reliable statistical information on agricultural economics at the farm level.

VIPS An online forecast and information service for pests, diseases and weeds in Norway;

www. vips-landbruk.no.

• Pesticide recidue in food and environment.

Agrometeorology Norway (LMT) Provides online weather data from Norway’s main agricultural regions for use in forecast services and research;

http://lmt.nibio.no.

• Long term forest research field trial plots: NIBIO oversees around 800 long term field trials investi- gating the effects of various silvicultural regimes in order to develop better forest growth models.

• Field trials at Møystad (since 1922) and Apelsvoll (since 1989) are used to study long term effects of different agricultural practices and technologies on yield, soil properties, and the environment.

• Advanced greenhouse facilities

• Accredited laboratories (pesticides, biotechnology)

• Network of field trial facilities

NIBIO has several long term monitoring and surveilance programmes and also produces tools, maps and statistics. Some examples:
