Housing for senior citizens in Drammen
Situated in the city of Drammen, The projects houses 26 apartments for senior citizens. The building frames a lush public garden which invites pe- ople in to the public cafe and open co-working space at ground level. This mountain like landscape divides the floor into zones for play, entertainment and work where the residents can meet with the public in a casual and un- restricted way.
A crack running through the building separates the circulation space with the apartments and marks the threshold between the shared and the priva- te spaces. Like hiking in the mountains the unregular circulation encoura- ges movement and makes it interesting to navigate. larger pockets facing towards the city creates spaces for casual encounters and activities like a game of chess. Entering your apartment, you cross a small bridge em- phasizing the transition to the private world. A fireplace divides the apart- ment in two, complimented by a level difference and a small ramp to furt- her encourage movement. The change in level leads you out towards the balcony. Like a cliffside you get an overview of the garden and the lands- cape in the far distant.
