5.5 Muligheter for videre forskning
Denne studien sier noe om hvordan situasjoner der hjelp gis oppleves fra perspektivet til pasienter som selvskader. Det ser ut til at disse situasjonene preges av sterk affekt og vansker med å mentalisere fra begge sider, noe som også kan føre til ulik oppfatning av situasjonene.
Informantenes beskrivelser av selvskadingens funksjon skiller seg fra det som ofte er hjelperes oppfatning (Karman et al, 2015; Sandy, 2013; Saunders et al., 2012) og
informantene opplever ofte negative holdninger som kanskje ikke er reelle. Nettopp fordi pasient og hjelpers perspektiv ser ut til å være så ulike, er det viktig å forske mer på
pasientenes opplevelse. Det kan være nyttig for hjelpere å få mer kunnskap om hvordan deres atferd kan tolkes av pasienter med denne problematikken.
Tidligere forskning og gjeldende studie sier noe om at begrepet ”oppmerksomhet” blir negativt ladet både for pasienter og hjelpere. Et spørsmål som ville være interessant å utforske nærmere, er hva både pasienter og hjelpere legger i begrepet oppmerksomhet. Hva er det som gjør at oppmerksomhet blir et negativt ladet begrep i møte med denne pasientgruppen?
Gjeldende studie samsvarer med flere andre studier (Karman et al., 2015; McHale &
Felton, 2010; Saunders et al., 2012; Sheehan et al., 2016) som peker på viktigheten av opplæring av hjelpere. Denne studien peker spesielt mot affektregulering, attribusjonsfeil og svikt i mentalisering som områder hjelpere bør ha kjennskap til. Videre kan man se nærmere på hvordan det vil være best å legge opp et utdanningsprogram for hjelpere og hvilken effekt det kan ha for behandlingen.
Underveis i arbeidet har jeg sett svært få studier som tar for seg motivasjonen bak å dele erfaringer med selvskading i blogger. Dette temaet har vært utenfor gjeldende studies problemstilling. Dersom man undersøker dette nærmere, kan man kanskje finne ut mer om hva som motiverer denne pasientgruppen til å dele sine opplevelser, følelser og erfaringer og bruke denne kunnskapen i terapeutisk sammenheng. Møter med helsevesenet er det temaet informantene i denne studien skriver mest om. Kanskje kan det å blogge om sine erfaringer være en alternativ måte å regulere og kommunisere smerte, angst og fortvilelse på. De kommuniserer i blogg, som kan være et steg på veien til direkte kommunikasjon i relasjon.
